Country: Russia

The main heir of the Soviet Union, Russia currently is a federation of 83 federal subjects, including 21 republics and 46 provinces (oblast'). The central government is based in Moscow, capital of the Russian Federation. Although Russia has suffered the collapse of the Soviet Union, it still maintains its leading role in international relations. Permanent member of the UN Security Council, Russia is also a member of the G8, Council of Europe and OECD. It forms with China, India and Brazil, the BRICs, that is the group of four countries with the highest levels of economic development.

Relations with the United States of America are no longer those of the Cold War and the transition from a socialist economy to a liberal economy, has made the two countries,  important trading partners with each other, recording huge US investments in Russia and vice versa. Also EU countries have become privileged trading partners of Russia, thanks to variuos agreements between the Union and the Federation.

Russian is the official language, but English is quite spoken in the capital Moscow and in the remote areas of the country.

About Russian Law, it could be defined as a legal system of civil law, because codified in all its branches, like the modern European systems, but in substance, it is still suffering the Soviet Union's experience. So it's hard to say that its notion of private property is similar to French or Italian ones, as well as in labor law, relations between the different forces are still tied to the socialist law.
