Santaniello & Partners in Nigeria

The Federal Republic of Nigeria, with its 160 million inhabitants, is the most populous African country. Former British colony and independent since 1960, Nigeria is member of the Commonwealth of Nations. Rich in oil, the most important resource of the national economy, Nigeria has been experiencing a period of great ecomonic growth. In fact, as tribal conflicts had been placated and the period of military administrations ended, the Country has been starting an impressive macro-economic reform in order to diversify the national economy, still tied to the oil industry. Massive investments (including foreign ones, especially Chinese) have been making in steel industry and whole heavy one, infrastructure and transport, telecommunications and technology. Its cities are increasing, welcoming many workers from neighboring countries, giving to Nigeria, in the African continent, an economic role as the one Germany plays in Europe.
English is the official language, even between people of different ethnic groups. The Nigerian law is mainly based on the Anglo-Saxon common law. However, the Nigerian legal system is also influenced by tribal rights and the Islamic Law: these characteristics sometimes cause misunderstandings and uncertainties for the foreign economic operators in the country.
